  • Why it’s important. The Awards recognize the greatness in books by or about Latinos around the world. Winners have included the major Latino literary stars and nurtures those that are starting their writing career and will hopefully be the stars of tomorrow.
  • The Growth. In 1980 there were less than 300 books a year being published in the USA with Latino authors. By 1997 when Latino Literacy Now started over a 1,000 books a year were being published with Latino authors. Today that figure is between 25,000 and 30,000 books per year by Latino authors in the USA. We are very proud of that evolution.
  • Media Exposure. Every year coverage of the Awards has grown. This past year over 190 publications around the USA covered the Awards and we had a segment on the nationally syndicated American Latino TV. Our grounding the Awards in Los Angeles will encourage further national coverage.
  • Presenters. One reason that we moved the Awards to Los Angeles is to add the vast array of entertainment industry leaders as presenters.
  • The Event. The event opens with a Red Carpet treatment for the authors and publishers.
